Dr Daniel Fong is currently a Senior Lecturer in Loughborough University, UK. He is a fellow of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports and is currently the editor of the society’s journal, Sports Biomechanics. He is also a core member of the International Ankle Consortium which has recently published several consensus articles to advocate the importance and direction of research related to ankle sprain injury and instability. He is a life member of The World Association of Chinese Biomedical Engineers and a fellow of The Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science.
Ankle sprain is common in sports and therefore it is worth investigating and preventing. The webinar will first cover a series of biomechanics studies on ankle inversion sprain mechanism. This involved a forensic motion analysis on video footages of real injury incidents. The second part will present a wearable anti-sprain system to prevent the injury by monitoring the injury hazard by motion sensors and preventing it by stimulating shank muscles for very quick corrective motion. Current attempts to modify the device for prehabilitation will also be presented.
