For the first time ever, some of the most influential organizations in health, fitness education, assessment, and promotion have partnered to develop and promote the Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP). Thanks to this historic partnership, unprecedented cooperation among key national organizations and nonprofit groups, and support from private-sector companies, PYFP is already making a significant impact on U.S. youth.
PYFP provides a model for fitness education that includes the use of a health-related assessment as well as educational and motivational tools to support educators and empower students to adopt an active lifestyle.
SHAPE America is a PYFP partner and provides the professional development component for the program. The Cooper Institute is also a PYFP partner and provides the assessment component for the program. The Brockport Physical Fitness Test, created by Joe Winnick and Frank Short, is the PYFP’s adopted assessment for individuals with disabilities.
