The Journal of Applied Biomechanics (JAB) is a bimonthly journal devoted to the dissemination of high-quality studies that use biomechanical strategies to advance the fields of sport, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and posture and movement. These areas of interest to JAB authors, editors, and readers are not limited to applications in humans but also include the structure, control, function, and state (heath and disease) of animals and biological systems. The journal contains research articles, technical notes, review articles, and other pertinent information highlighting current advances in the field. JAB accepts articles that pertain to research studies on the effect and control of the forces that act on and that are produced by the human body. The journal also publishes reviews on topics of applied biomechanics and is divided into six editorial sections: biomechanical modeling, clinical biomechanics, gait and posture mechanics, musculoskeletal biomechanics, neuromuscular biomechanics, and sport mechanics.
In addition to original research, the Journal of Applied Biomechanics is interested in publishing symposium or workshop proceedings, articles on selected current topics, book reviews, and editorials. Future articles will touch on topics such as age-related differences in maximum power production, electromyography normalization methods for high-velocity muscle actions, and the effect of stochastic resonance electrical stimulation and knee sleeves during gait.
JAB is also published in a digital format, providing online subscribers with the same authoritative content as the print edition but with additional advantages, including the ability to search entire issues and access to all back issues. The content of the online version of JAB is accessible before the print version arrives by mail, and subscribers can receive each issue’s table of contents by e-mail when a new issue is published. To provide early publication of accepted manuscripts, Human Kinetics posts in-press articles at its In Press site and sends the in-press abstracts to Medline.
J.J. Trey Crisco, PhD, is the Henry Frederick Lippitt professor of orthopaedic research, professor of engineering, and director of the bioengineering laboratory in the department of orthopaedics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital. Crisco’s primary research interests include normal and pathological mechanics underlying human wrist function, for which he has developed advanced imaging modalities for in vivo studies. He also has a strong interest in applied biomechanics in the field of sport injury prevention, comparative biomechanics, design, and toy technologies for pediatric rehabilitation. He serves on the scientific advisory committees of the International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse, US Lacrosse, and USA Baseball. He is a former president of the American Society of Biomechanics. His research has been primarily funded by the NIH, for which he also serves on several study sections. He has coauthored over 160 peer-reviewed publications. As editor in chief of the Journal of Applied Biomechanics, Crisco plans to continue supporting the journal’s recent successes and fortifying the journal’s stance as the premier journal for applied biomechanical research.
