Stephen J. Langendorfer, PhD, Editor of the International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education, is professor of kinesiology as well as the Director of the general education program at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He earned his B.S. from SUNY Cortland (where he was honored as outstanding alumnus and member of the Academic Hall of Fame), M.S. from Purdue University, and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He specializes in aquatics, motor development, and measurement. Dr. Langendorfer’s line of research, uniquely blending motor development and aquatics, examines how aquatic movements change developmentally over the lifespan as well as how various factors alter swimming patterns. He has published numerous scholarly articles and coauthored Aquatic Readiness: Developing Water Competence in Young Children. He is widely recognized for his international service to aquatic agencies such as the U.S. Lifeguard Standards Coalition; American Red Cross Advisory Council on First Aid, Aquatics, Safety, and Prevention; YMCA of the USA, and Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming 2010. His contributions to aquatics were honored with the Golden Whale Award from the Commodore Longfellow Society and the Paragon Aquatic Award. He is an avid bicyclist, canoeist, camper, and proud member of the BGSU Masters swim team.
