Developed by SHAPE America, the Physical Best program offers a comprehensive health-related fitness education program. Focusing on educating children regardless of athletic talent, physical and mental abilities, or disabilities, the Physical Best program promotes regular, enjoyable physical activity. Now with the help of Motivating Students to Become Their Physical Best online course, physical educators will learn how to implement the Physical Best program in their classroom and inspire students to get moving.
Motivating Students to Become Their Physical Best provides an introduction to effective motivation, behavior change, and goal-setting strategies for K-12 physical education. The online course will help physical educators learn about theories of behavior change in the physical education setting, including the tenets of the social cognitive theory (SCT) of behavior change and ways of applying SCT with students.
Physical educators will also learn the six steps in the goal-setting process, how to set SMART goals, and how to modify motivational strategies depending on the age of the student. The course also presents information on the recommended amount of weekly physical activity and physical education for students and provides a list of benefits of physical activity as it relates to academic performance.
Part of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program professional development program, Motivating Students to Become Their Physical Best can be completed in 4 hours and provides the tools needed to move students from dependence to independence for their own fitness and health.
