The summer months are a great time to enjoy outdoor activities, sporting events, and training for the upcoming fall season. But it also leads to heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and heat cramps. This special issue of the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation examines heat-related illnesses and the importance of hydration. Contributors examine return-to-play issues following exertional heat stroke, severe dehydration, idiosyncratic hyperthermia, exertional heat cramps, exertional heat illness, and heat exhaustion. They will also present research on predisposing risk factors and the development and distribution of health information regarding heat illnesses.
The Journal of Sport Rehabilitation (JSR) is dedicated to advancing the understanding of all aspects of sport rehabilitation, particularly in the areas of therapeutic exercise, therapeutic modalities, injury evaluation, and psychological aspects of rehabilitation. To this end, JSR acts as an international, multidisciplinary forum to serve the needs of all members of the modern sports medicine team, including athletic trainers, physical therapists and physiotherapists, sports medicine physicians, and allied health professionals.
