Journal of Motor Learning and Development (JMLD) aims to advance the understanding of movement skill acquisition and change across the life span with research related to the learning or relearning of skills in individuals with various movement-related abilities and disabilities.
Journal of Motor Learning and Development (JMLD) aims to advance the understanding of movement skill acquisition and change across the life span. It provides a platform for innovative, peer-reviewed research related to factors that influence the learning or relearning of skills in individuals with various movement-related abilities and disabilities. JMLD features high-quality studies that offer insight into training or therapeutic interventions that promote motor proficiency, or reduce deficits and decline, in any age group. Research that crosses traditional divides between physical, cognitive, and social domains in motor learning and development is especially encouraged.
JMLD publishes original articles, including reviews and studies using experimental and nonexperimental designs, as well as psychological, neuroscientific, physiological, and biomechanical analyses that consider the various dimensions of movement learning and development. Special consideration is given to research using methods appropriate for applied research, such as field studies, observational analysis, and qualitative data.
Previous articles have addressed a variety of issues, including effects of attentional focus on the learning of movement form in golf, influences of social-comparative feedback and conceptions of ability on learning in children and adults, developmental changes in postural-manual integration, body schema disturbance in adolescence, and the end-state comfort effect in children.
For individual subscribers, JMLD is available in online-only or print plus online subscription formats. Both versions allow subscribers full access to the journal’s authoritative content and online access to digital archives of back issues. Gabriele Wulf, PhD, is a professor of kinesiology in the department of kinesiology and nutrition sciences at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Dr. Wulf's research area is motor learning. She has authored and coauthored more than 170 journal articles and book chapters. She has also given more than 200 presentations at international and national conferences and universities. Dr. Wulf's book, Attention and Motor Skill Learning, was published by Human Kinetics in 2007.
Among the honors Dr. Wulf received are the Research Writing Award from the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in 2000 and the Barrick Distinguished Scholar Award from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas in 2011. She has been a member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) since 1987, was secretary–treasurer from 2002 to 2004, and currently serves as NASPSPA president.
Dr. Wulf was an editorial board member, consulting editor, and associate editor for several journals and most recently was founding editor of Frontiers in Movement Science and Sport Psychology before taking on the role of founding editor of Journal of Motor Learning and Development.
