Research has shown that exercise can play an important role in the management of cardiovascular conditions. Exercise Management for Cardiovascular Conditions will help exercise physiologists better understand these conditions and learn to provide safe and effective exercise interventions. The online course explains the pathology, diagnosis, and pathophysiology of the most common cardiovascular conditions—myocardial infarction, peripheral arterial disease, and chronic heart failure—and the role of exercise in managing them. Exercise testing, exercise prescription, possible risks associated with exercise, and the response of common medications to exercise are also covered. The course is supplemented by the text Clinical Exercise Physiology, Second Edition, by Jonathan Ehrman, PhD, FACSM; Paul Gordon, PhD, MPH, FACSM; Paul Visich, PhD, MPH; and Steven Keteyian, PhD, FACSM.
This course was developed by Dianne Littlechild and Robert Barnard of the Centre for Physical Activity in Ageing (CPAA), a specialized unit of the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre, the rehabilitation campus of the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. CPAA is at the forefront of this field and brings extensive knowledge to the course.
Throughout this course, interactive exercises, including case studies, provide users with the chance to apply the knowledge to situations they will encounter in practice. They will be presented with virtual clients and asked to answer specific questions about those clients. Additional activities, such as review questions in true-or-false and multiple-choice format, allow users to test their comprehension of key topics as they progress through the course and text.
