- Appropriate Practices for Middle School Physical Education
- Appropriate Practices for High School Physical Education
- Moving Into the Future: National Standards for Physical Education, Second Edition, is also required and may be purchased separately
The prerequisite knowledge and skills include a basic understanding of
- teaching and planning methods,

- maturational changes that occur in students in grades K-12, and
- the NASPE National Standards of physical education.
In this course, you’ll be a member of a resource team of physical educators visiting schools within a school district that have been designated as having exemplary physical education programs. The schools within the district have asked for the external visit so that program improvement is ongoing.
The first discussion begins with the characteristics of a high-quality physical education program. You will be introduced to all of the schools and physical education teachers that you will visit. You’ll also meet the resource team members who will discuss the various topics throughout the visits.
By the time all discussions are complete, you should be able to do the following:
- Identify the characteristics of high-quality physical education programs.
- Identify and implement appropriate plans with high expectations for student learning in a safe, positive learning environment.
- Identify and implement instructional strategies for student learning with appropriate content
- Identify and implement ways to maximize practice with participation for all students while considering individual differences.
- Identify and implement assessment strategies that encourage student learning and improve instruction.
A final course exam covers material from the online study guide as well as the accompanying resources. Upon passing the final exam, you will be sent a certificate of completion for finishing the course.
