The Institute of Sport Science and Sport (ISS) of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen Nuremberg, Germany, is an internationally known competence centre for research and education in the area of physical activity and health.
The ISS is involved in European research efforts to develop an instrument for the assessment of physical activity levels in populations. In cooperation with the EU, the ISS collects and analyses data on physical activity levels in member states. It also collaborates with other groups in developing fall prevention programmes for older people and collects data at the community level on exercise behaviour and projects community needs for sports facilities.
