Through the Physical Activity Instruction for Older Adults CertificateProgram, you will gain a better understanding of the aging process, predictors of successful aging, psychological and sociocultural aspects of physical activity, and the benefits of an active lifestyle in disease prevention and quality of life.
You will learn how to apply proper screening, assessment, and goal setting techniques for physical activity, as well as how to implement appropriate exercise routines for older adults with diverse functional abilities. Age-specific motor learning principles will also be addressed to help you design effective group or personal training conditioning sessions for older adults.

This certificate program consists of 40 hours of coursework: 20 required hours and 20 elective hours. Pre-qualification requirements to enter the certificate programs are:
Current certification by a nationally recognized certification body and/or health or exercise related degree
Minimum of 2 years of industry teaching experience
Current CPR and AED certification
Minimum 18 years of age
