Larry Carrico is on a mission to improve Illinois students’ mental fitness by first improving their physical fitness.
Just this school year, Rent One has purchased Fitnessgram software licenses for 21 schools.
Fitnessgram is a fitness assessment and reporting program. Students take part in fitness tests at least twice a year. Using standards devised by a scientific team as benchmarks for good health, the program generates printed reports for students to see how they stack up to the standard. The reports also include exercise recommendations and goals to encourage fitness improvement.
Studies show that physical activity has a positive effect on learning, proving the old adage, “a sound mind in a sound body.”
Rent One began funding implementation of the program in 2009 beginning with Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80. Carrico was honored earlier this year with a special resolution by the Illinois State Board of Education for his help in initiating the health and fitness program.
