Recent studies test motivational techniques for Olympians

In light of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, a recent article published in The Atlantic explored how Olympic athletes stay motivated through endless hours of intense training. Drawing from interviews with top athletes and their coaches, along with psychological studies of athletes, the article explores seven ways Olympians stay motivated.

Among the studies cited were “Self-Determined Motivation as a Predictor of Burnout Among College Athletes,” published in The Sport Psychologist, and “Mindfulness and Acceptance Approaches in Sport Performance,” published in a special issue of the Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology.
