The country’s premier youth cheer organization, American Youth Cheer (AYC), has partnered with leading coaching education provider American Sport Education Program (ASEP) to offer online training and certification for AYC’s cheer coaches beginning October 2010.
As the exclusive coaching education provider to AYC, ASEP has designed a customized online coaching youth cheerleading course specifically for AYC. The course entitled Coaching Youth Cheerleading: The AYC Way is now available through a dedicated Web site www.AYFCoaching.com. AYC is establishing a leadership role in youth cheerleading by recommending all its coaches to successfully complete the coaching education program.
"As administrators and supporters of cheerleading, it is our responsibility to encourage all team leaders to use the Coaching Youth Cheerleading: The AYC Way course in order to further their knowledge of skill techniques and safety" says AYC National Cheer Director Elizabeth Bray. "Without safety, there is no fun in cheerleading," she says.
"We’re delighted to be helping American Youth Cheer provide a quality coaching education program," says Jim Schmutz, ASEP executive director. "The opportunity to influence so many coaches to provide a safe and positive sport experience for millions of young athletes fulfills our mission at ASEP."
The course is based on the ASEP book, Coaching Youth Cheerleading, written in conjunction with Varsity Brands. The book serves as a supplement to the online course. Course participants read excerpts from the book electronically as they progress through the course’s 11 units. The course includes many interactive exercises that apply and enrich concepts from the book.
The course features interactive activities and unit quizzes that put coaches in team and competition situations and prepare them for the course test. The test contains 30 questions, and coaches receive immediate feedback on their test score. Coaches pass the test with a score of 80 percent or better and can print a certificate of course completion directly from the Web site to document their achievement.
American Youth Cheer coaches can visit www.AYFCoaching.com to register for the course. The course price is $19.95, which includes one-year access to the online course and its electronic resources (downloadable PDFs of drills, practice plans, safety checklists, evaluations, and more), test scoring and reporting, a certificate of completion, and lifetime certification with AYC.
