Gayle Kassing, PhD, taught the history of dance for more than 25 years at four different universities. Kassing earned a BFA in ballet and theatre, an MS in modern dance, a PhD in dance and related arts, and an MAT in K-12 curriculum integrated with technology, for which she completed a multimedia history of dance technology project. Her dissertation was one of the first historical dance studies written. Selected as one of 10 national scholars, she participated in Selma Jeanne Cohen’s seminar, Dance in America Before 1900. She is a National Dance Association (NDA) member and past board member, and she served as director of NDA publications for two terms. She is also a member of National Dance Education Organization (NDEO). Besides History of Dance, Kassing is also the author of Dance Teaching Methods and Curriculum Design, and Teaching Beginning Ballet Technique. Currently, Kassing is employed as an acquisitions editor at Human Kinetics.
