Golf Digest recently released its biennial list of the “Top 100 South Africa Courses,” and not surprisingly Gary Player Design achieved an unprecedented success. Five of the top six courses on the list belong to the firm’s portfolio.
A coveted list, the publication’s rankings are based on course evaluations by 120 volunteer panel members throughout South Africa, and are qualified based on seven criteria: shot values, playability, resistance to scoring, aesthetics, design variety, memorability and conditioning.
While several ex-golfers maintain design businesses, few are as successful as Gary Player Design. Gary Player Design has designed over 325 courses around the world in 35 countries on 5 continents. The firm continues to be the global leader in golf course design and the most recognized firm internationally. Player is a fierce believer in creating environmentally friendly, sustainable courses, but he also emphasizes courses that are golfer-friendly, because he believes that’s the best way to grow the game.
