MYTH: The more you exercise, the more weight you lose.

TRUTH: The more you exercise, the more you eat, and the less active you are likely to be in the rest of the day. Research suggests that people who do hard workouts tend to compensate for the tiring exercise the rest of the day and are unlikely to lose more weight than those who exercise less rigorously.

In a study with pudgy young men, those who did an hour of exercise a day did not lose more weight in the13-week study compared to the group that exercised for only half an hour a day. The researchers noticed the group that did twice the exercise load ate more and moved less in the remaining 23 hours of the day.
