Active Aging Today (AAT) seeks practical, how-to articles and multimedia stories from practitioners and researchers from around the world. We are looking for articles that relate to the following categories:
- Specific practices and programs that successfully engage older adults in regular physical activity. Articles will explain the program, how it was developed and implemented, and why the program is successful (and by what evaluation criteria).
- How practitioners have reached out to recruit participants, instructors, and/or facilities to be involved in older adult exercise programs.
- How professionals have translated research into successful delivery of programs or services to older adults. Articles will explain the research, how it is applied to programs, how the program is implemented, why the program is successful (and by what evaluation criteria).
- Programs designed for people with disease or disability.
- Country profiles in active aging. Articles will explain initiatives in the country related to aging and physical activity as well as population demographics.
- Policies and professional work issues around the world. Articles will explain the issue, its impact on the field of active aging, and what it means for professionals and the older adults they serve.
Manuscript: Manuscripts must be double-spaced with 12-point font size and 1-in. margins. Text (not including title page, figures, tables, and references) must not exceed 5,000 words. All articles must be preceded by an abstract of 100 to 150 words. Publication priority will be given to concisely written, highly focused manuscripts. Manuscripts must not have been previously published in another publication.
Title Page: The title page should include the title of the manuscript, at least three key words that are not included in the title, and three or four key points in the form of short sentences (each preferably 12 words or less).
Text: The text of the manuscript should include one or two introductory paragraphs that establish the purpose and importance of the article, and the content that follows should be organized by headings and subheadings. A summary section should be included.
Artwork: We encourage graphic elements (i.e., photos, charts, or tables) to accompany your article. Figures and tables should be identified in the text of the manuscript by consecutive Arabic numerals. If the manuscript is submitted electronically as a Word document, all figures and tables should be inserted into the document after the references, and each should have a brief caption. Each graphic element should also be provided in separate electronic files, with filenames that correspond to the numbered text references. JPEG (.jpg) or TIFF (.tif) files should be 300-dpi resolution at full size for photos, 600 dpi if scans of line art. Electronic files are strongly preferred, but postal delivery of photographs and printed copies is acceptable. If photos are used, they should show good contrast. Each figure and photo must be properly identified. In graphs, use black and white only, no shading or color. Digital images should be 300 dpi at full size for photos and 600 dpi for line art.
Author Info: Provide the following information: title of the manuscript; author name(s), including middle initials; author credentials; author postal address(es); lead author e-mail address and phone and fax numbers; and a brief biographical note (~30 words) for each author, including position titles and institutional affiliations.
Submission: Authors are requested to submit a cover sheet including the title, name of author(s), institutional affiliation(s), running head, and full mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone and fax number. The following page should contain the abstract, with the text beginning on page 3.
All submissions should be complete, fact checked and error free, have topical relevance and interest to the readership, and be presented logically and clearly. Authors are advised to check very carefully the typing of the final copy, particularly the accuracy of references, and to retain a duplicate copy to guard against loss.
E-mail manuscripts to aat@hkusa.com. Manuscripts must not be submitted to another publication at the same time. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to Human Kinetics, Inc.
Review Policy: Manuscripts are read by at least two members of the editorial board, with the review process expected to take four to six weeks. When a manuscript is accepted for publication, an editor will work with the author to improve the presentation of the work. We reserve the right to edit all content to correct grammatical errors, to ensure accuracy of the information presented, and to fit space restrictions.
An article might be approved for publication as a two-part column appearing in two successive issues. A manuscript submitted to AAT must not be submitted to any other journal while under review.
If you have audio or video files to be considered for publication in AAT, please contact us.
