HealthScreen is an easy-to-use software program that automates the administration of pre-exercise screening for fitness professionals. The program interprets the 1995 American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) screening guidelines and makes them convenient to apply. HealthScreen eliminates the need for other prescreening systems and puts everything you need in one useful package. With HealthScreen you enter demographic, exercise, and medical information about the subject, and with the click of a button, the appropriate screening decisions are made for you. The program tells you whether the person needs a medical checkup before starting an exercise program and whether a physician must be present during maximal and submaximal testing. A report is generated and, if necessary, a letter to the person’s physician. Not only can you enter a person’s responses directly into HealthScreen, but you also can print the screening questionnaire for the person and you to complete. Later, you can enter the details into HealthScreen.
While all care has been taken to interpret and formalize the ACSM prescreening guidelines, this inevitably involves a degree of subjectivity. The authors and Human Kinetics disclaim any responsibility for cases where there may be differing interpretations of the guidelines leading to different recommendations.
