The Summer Series on Aging, sponsored by the University of Kentucky College of Public Health, will be held June 22-24, 2009, in Lexington, Kentucky. This is a three-day, multidisciplinary conference that spotlights innovations in geriatrics and gerontology and provides a networking opportunity for professionals in aging, including nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and recreational therapists. AARP will host this conference on 8-10 June 2009 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. This event is designed to examine the impact of diversity and aging on our society and will address individual differences while emphasizing the power of inclusion. Any aging professionals interested in learning more about how diversity and aging policies impact the marketplace and the workplace are encouraged to attend.
Forum participants talked about difficulties around motivation, time, desire to exercise, and the importance of providing fun and relevant programming. The June/July 2009 Practitioners Forum topic was: What are the greatest challenges in getting your older adult clients to participate in programs? As well as reminding participants of the health benefits of their exercise program, the importance of making activities fun was reiterated.
