Call for Papers
Cases should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format (.docx) to our ScholarOne Manuscripts site: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/hk_cssep. Cases should follow the style guidelines set forth in the latest edition (6th) of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, be double-spaced, use a standard 11- or 12-point font, and use one-inch margins on all sides throughout. Submitted manuscripts must include an abstract of between 100-200 words. Subheadings should be used throughout the manuscript to help organize the content and guide the reader. The manuscript itself should include the following sections:
Context: A reflection on the context and the key agents underpinning the case study. In particular focusing on the author(s), their approach to practice, their philosophy and briefly outlining experiences that have helped to shape and evolve their particular approach.
The Case: explaining in detail the case itself and the focal interventions (tactics) and outcomes.
Reflections: The author(s) will be required to reflect on their experience, their approach, things they would do differently, lessons learnt, and recommendations for future practice, research or both.
Submissions of case studies to CSSEP should be 15 to 25 pages in length (4000 – 6000 words), inclusive of abstract, references, tables and figures. The writing style should be clear and engaging. Authors can achieve this by presenting their ideas in an orderly manner and by expressing them smoothly and precisely. Establishing a tone that conveys the essential points of the work in an interesting manner will engage readers and communicate the ideas more effectively. Esoteric terminology or abbreviations should be avoided.
Continuous line numbering should be included throughout the manuscript. Any identifying information on the title page or in the content of the manuscript must be removed or concealed prior to submission.
Submitting a case for review indicates the authors have not concurrently submitted their manuscript to another journal, agree to transfer copyright to Human Kinetics upon acceptance, and acknowledge following proper institutional review board procedures at their respective institutions, as applicable. Authors are also responsible for obtaining permissions for copyrighted work. Figures should be created in Microsoft Excel or saved as TIFF or JPEG files. Authors whose cases require supplementary materials such as additional documents, files, or video not contained within the case itself should seek preliminary approval from the editor before submission. Case submissions meeting these criteria will be subject to blind review. Reviews will be returned to authors in a timely manner, typically within 60 days.
Desk Rejection Policy
Before full review, submissions are examined at the editorial level. If the editor believes the submission has extensive flaws or is inconsistent with the mission and focus of the journal, both the editor and associate editor will review the case submission. The case will be sent out for full blind review if either the editor or associate editor believes the case warrants full review. The submission will receive a desk reject decision only if both the editor and associate editor agree the case does not merit full review due to extensive flaws or a lack of fit with the mission and focus of CSSEP.
