Professional Golf Tours Working Together

April 7, 2014
By Rick Horrow and Karla Swatek

Of the four World Golf Championship events, only one is played outside the US.  This is particularly relevant coming off Miami’s WGC-Cadillac Championship.  Golf continues to grow globally, as the PGA Tour and European Tour increasingly stage tournaments in China, the Middle East, and elsewhere around the world.

There exists the potential for all professional tours to come together and work in the best interests of golf, players, and sponsors.  With the increasing globalization of the game, the various professional tours could work towards a schedule that would allow the top players in the world to compete across a truly global stage.

Gary Player is the first truly global player participating all over the world.  He feels that professional tours working together would be great for the game.  As the International Ambassador of Golf, Player has over 165 worldwide victories, including on 6 of 7 continents.  Player embraces traveling around the world, because he enjoys being a global ambassador for the game of golf.  Tours would be wise to learn from his travels.
