El Paso Chihuahuas Merchandise Sales

By Rick Horrow and Karla Swatek

In less than six months, El Paso will realize its dream of having a Triple-A baseball team.  After announcing last week that the new team would be called the Chihuahuas, the city has experienced a lot of positive feedback.  For example, the team already has 23,000 likes on Facebook, 13th most among the 30 Triple-A teams.  It took the Chihuahuas’ predecessor, the Tucson Padres, three years to accumulate 10,000 likes.  The Chihuahuas reached that milestone in less than 20 hours.  Within days of unveiling their new name and logo, the Chihuahuas were featured on ESPN, CBS Sports, and Fox Sports, and were a trending topic on Yahoo.

Chihuahuas merchandise also has been flying off store shelves.  The Chihuahua Team Shop has received orders from 37 states, D.C., Germany, Japan, and Mexico, and almost half of Internet sales are coming from outside of El Paso.  With an eye towards Opening Day in April, it’s all good in El Paso.
