As football leagues of all ages and sizes work to make the sport safer, one important story hasn’t been told nearly enough. That’s the story of an educational program being rolled out for youth leagues in all 50 states.
Rooted in education, USA Football’s Heads Up Football program is setting new and important standards in coach certification and player safety. More than 25% of all U.S. youth leagues have registered for Heads Up Football this season – the first year of its national offering. Additionally, high schools in 10 states are currently piloting the USA Football program for their own use.
Heads Up Football’s new approach has advanced the concussion conversation from awareness to meaningful action, and concerted effort is underway to make football a better, safer game for players of all ages. This is not your father’s football, and for that, our children will thank us.
