It's All Good in El Paso

By Rick Horrow and Karla Swatek

February 8, 2013

It’s all good in El Paso, as the city begins development on the projects approved in November’s $473 million quality of life referendum.  City officials unveiled their first three-year plan, which calls for the first $95 million to be spent through 2016, including $27 million this year for park acquisitions and improvements.

Also scheduled to begin this year is construction of a new $50 million downtown, minor league baseball stadium.  A group of El Paso business leaders last October bought the Triple-A Tucson Padres with the intention of relocating the team to the new stadium for opening day in April 2014.  Next on the docket, a $180 million multi-purpose arena & performing arts center that will open the way for El Paso to host events such as NCAA Tournament Regionals.
The project gets underway as CQ Press named El Paso the safest major city in the United States for the third consecutive year.  El Paso has been in the top three large cities with the lowest crime rates every year since 1997.  El Paso, it’s all good.
