New Jersey Regulates Sports Betting

The NCAA has pulled five of its championships from New Jersey after the state passed regulations for sports betting at horse tracks at Atlantic City casinos.   Among the events being taken away are the D-I men’s and women’s swimming and diving championships, and early-round games in the D-I women’s basketball championship.   NCAA rules don’t allow any championships to be held in states that have legal sports gambling.  In addition to the NCAA, the big four U.S. pro sports leagues are challenging

Technically, sports betting is still prohibited in New Jersey.  The regulations just give the state the ability to sell licenses to casinos and horse tracks, if it chooses. New Jersey filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the championships ban.
