'Two Fiddles' visit school in Goffstown

Human Kinetics authors, Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman recently spent a week with students in their physical education class at Maple Avenue Elementary School in Goffstown, NH. As Jacqueline played the fiddle, kids danced through the calls and picked up the dances quickly.

One student said "It was pretty fun…. It took a lot of energy. We were all pretty tired when we got back to class." Assistant principal Jessica Milligan said “students not only got some physical activity, but also learned some of the history of the dances and music and cultural aspects as well.” Something students don’t always get to learn a lot about these days.

If you would like to learn how to teach traditional barn dances with calls and fiddling, check out Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman’s book, Traditional Barn Dances With Calls and Fiddling. Click on the Multimedia tab to see videos and listen to MP3 audio files of calls.
