Fitness for Life secures another prestigious award

Elementary school edition of program honored by Text and Academic Authors Association

The acclaimed Fitness for Life program that helps students take responsibility for their own activity, fitness, and health has once again been honored. The elementary school companion to the middle and high school programs, Fitness for Life: Elementary School (Human Kinetics, 2010), has been chosen as one of seven recipients of the 2011 Text and Academic Authors Association Texty Textbook Excellence Award in the elementary-high school level Communication/Education/Performing Arts/Visual Arts category. The award will be presented during a luncheon at the 24th Annual TAA Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 25, 2011.

Fitness for Life: Elementary School is an innovative multimedia program that facilitates total-school involvement by using physical education lessons, classroom activities and discussions, recess, before- and after-school activities, and even family nights to deliver appropriate physical activity, plus concepts to promote health-related fitness and active lifestyles. It was developed by nationally and internationally recognized leaders Charles B. "Chuck" Corbin, Guy Le Masurier, Dolly Lambdin, and Meg Greiner. The program has been field tested and is based on the most current research and standards regarding health-related fitness, activity, wellness, and nutrition.

The Texty Award was created in 1992 in recognition of current textbooks and learning materials. Judges are published textbook authors. The Text and Academic Authors Association is the only nonprofit membership association dedicated solely to assisting textbook and academic authors. Previous winners of the Texty Award from the Fitness for Life program include Fitness for Life: Updated Fifth Edition (Human Kinetics, 2007) and Fitness for Life: Middle School (Human Kinetics, 2007).
