Nancy Clark’s Recipes for Athletes offers 71 recipes designed specifically to help you perform better in your next event. Each is searchable by calories, carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Recipes can be further sorted for nutrient timing recommendations, including recipes for pre- and postexercise, and special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Full-color photos of each prepared dish accompany the recipes as well as a quick reference listing of the most popular protein and energy bars, sports and energy drinks, and protein powders. In addition, Nancy Clark’s Recipes for Athletes includes an internationalization setting, which allows you to select imperial or metric measurements. Just select the settings icon, select the Nancy Clark app, then select units, and there you can pick which measurement type you would like to view.

About the Author

Nancy Clark, MS, RD, is board certified as a specialist in sports dietetics. She is internationally known and counsels both competitive athletes and casual exercisers at her successful private practice in Healthworks, the premier fitness center in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Previously, Clark was the director of nutrition services at Sports Medicine Associates in Brookline, Massachusetts. 

Clark specializes in nutrition for exercise, wellness, and the management of eating disorders. Her counseling includes teaching gymnasts how to lose weight healthfully, triathletes to eat for endurance, mountaineers to choose appropriate high-altitude foods, high school football players to bulk up, and recreational exercisers to eat healthfully on the run. Her more renowned clients have included the athletes at Boston College; members of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins; and many elite and Olympic athletes from a variety of sports: Kitty Carruthers (gold-medal figure skater), Tim Mayotte (Wimbledon tennis player), Brad Faxon (PGA golfer), Kathy Ellis (1991 winner of Bike Race Across America), and Dana Rosenblatt (champion boxer). She has been the nutritionist for Bill Rodgers’ & Joan Benoit Samuelson’s running camps. She currently is the sports nutrition consultant to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Team in Training Marathon Training program and is also a member of the Mizuno Advisory Board. Her photo and sports nutrition advice have even graced the back of the Wheaties box. 

Clark writes a monthly nutrition column called The Athlete’s Kitchen, which appears regularly in over 100 sports and health publications, including New England Runner, Adventure Cycling, and Rugby. She is frequently quoted in the popular press (Shape, Runner’s World, Men’s Fitness, and Woman’s Day). Clark has been the nutritionist for the Sports Illustrated for Kids’ website www.sportsparents.com, senior nutrition editor at www.FitForAll.com, and columnist for the Boston Globe’s sports pages and The Physician and Sportsmedicine.
