Accessibility

Human Kinetics is committed to providing content that is accessible to students of all abilities.

Print. Most print book disability requests from U.S. and Canadian higher education institutions can be submitted through AccessText Network. If your school is an ATN member, please submit your request through your ATN portal. If your school is not an ATN member, email your request, including title, edition, lead author, and ISBN, to permissions@hkusa.com.

Online video and courses. Most of our online video products include closed captioning and audio description. See this link for accessibility information from our video platform partner. Most of our online courses are screen-readable and can be accessed via keyboard controls.

Ebooks. HK ebooks are accessible on mobile devices using the OverDrive app on iOS devices. HK ebooks are also screen-readable on desktop/laptop computers with additional software. Specifically, customers can use Adobe Digital Editions to open both EPUB and PDF ebook files, and then use a system reader to listen to the titles. VoiceOver on Mac OS (a built-in tool) and NVDA on Windows (a free screen reader) have been tested and work well.

We recognize, however, that there is more we can do, and are actively taking steps to develop a more robust Accessibility Strategy. It is a priority for HK to integrate changes in our development process to ensure new products are born accessible and comply with WCAG 2.0 AA, Section 508, and other standards to meet the needs of customers worldwide. We will update this page with our plans as they are developed, including Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) for our online content.

In the meantime, contact techsupport@hkusa.com to request additional specific accommodations to help you make the most of Human Kinetics products.
