Preparation
One low-post, wing, and guard player are positioned on one side of the floor, with one substitute waiting at each position, out of bounds, on the same side of the floor, ready to come in. The ball is in the hands of the guard up top.
Procedure
Player 3 is overplayed (but no defense for the drill). Player 5 comes to the high post and receives a pass from 1, who has faked down and passed up using the two-handed overhead pass or the bounce pass. Player 3 makes a backdoor cut toward the block, and 5 delivers the pass. Player 1 replaces 3. Players 1, 3, and 5 move to the other side of the floor as 7, 8, and 9 begin the drill. Players 2, 4, and 6 will go next.
Teaching Points
- The coach should watch post footwork for traveling violations.
- An air pass is most appropriate to a tall player.
- The forward should be well on his way to the basket when the post player receives the ball. The backdoor pass should be caught about three feet above the block.
