Grants available for transdisciplinary research at the aging/cancer interface

The National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, seeks research grant applications from institutions and organizations that propose translational research in the overlapping areas of human aging and cancer, linking basic and clinical research relevant to the care of older cancer patients through both "bench to bedside" and "bedside to bench" approaches. Information from the supported research should improve the health and well-being of elderly patients at risk for, or diagnosed with, cancer and decrease the functional impairment and morbidity associated with cancer in this population.

Organizations that are eligible to apply include public- or state-controlled and private institutions of higher education, nonprofits, governments, and other entities.

Awards issued are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. The total project period may not exceed five years.

Applications will be accepted throughout the year until September 7, 2011. For more information, go to http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-08-230.html#SectionIII1A.
