Athletes often face psychological struggles after Olympics


Following the whirlwind of training and media attention created by a gold-medal performance at the Olympics, many athletes struggle to return to a life with different priorities. Dan Gould, co-author of Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Fifth Edition, shares his memories of working with one such athlete, Australian swimmer Shane Gould. "She said it was like being taken up to the highest mountain peak to see the view, and then being brought down, never to be there again."
