Best-selling yoga anatomy guide gets a face-lift

New edition of Kaminoff’s Yoga Anatomy highlighted by 40 new illustrations

Champaign, ILYoga Anatomy’s (Human Kinetics, 2007) detailed anatomical illustrations have captivated thousands. Now author and renowned yoga educator Leslie Kaminoff has teamed up with popular yoga instructor Amy Matthews to create a new edition of the best-selling yoga anatomy guide.

According to Kaminoff, yoga practitioners must understand the anatomy behind each pose to further their yoga practice. “Yoga speaks of getting at something deep inside of us—the true self,” Kaminoff explains. “This book takes the opposing stand—that in order to go deeply inside of ourselves we must journey within our physical bodies. Once there, we will not only understand our anatomy but also directly experience the reality that gives rise to the core concepts of yoga.”

In Yoga Anatomy, Second Edition (Human Kinetics, 2011), Kaminoff brings the relationship between yoga and anatomy to life with full-color anatomical illustrations and offers a deeper understanding of the structures and principles underlying each movement.

“The view of yoga used in this book is based on the structure and function of the human body,” says Kaminoff. “Because yoga practice emphasizes the relationship of the breath and the spine, we pay particular attention to those systems. By viewing all other body structures in light of their relationship to the breath and spine, yoga becomes the integrating principle for the study of anatomy.”

The second edition of Yoga Anatomy includes 40 new illustrations and asana variations, new chapters on muscular and skeletal systems, and expanded information on breathing and the spine. For more information, see Yoga Anatomy, Second Edition.
