Human Kinetics' titles named Nautilus Book Award winners

Qigong Illustrated (Human Kinetics, 2011) and Pilates Illustrated (Human Kinetics, 2011) have been named silver award winners in the 2011 Nautilus Book Awards. Gold and silver awards are given to print and audio books of exceptional merit that make a literary contribution to spiritual growth, conscious living, high-level wellness, and positive social change.

Entries were accepted in 33 subject categories, including audio and e-books. Qigong Illustrated and Pilates Illustrated were the top winners in the exercise, fitness, and bodywork category. Award winners are selected in a three-tier judging process by teams of book reviewers, librarians, authors, editors, book store owners, and leaders in the publishing industry.

Qigong Illustrated is written by Christina Barea, an ordained Daoist priest specializing in medical qigong (MMQ). The book offers an illustrated guide to qigong with detailed full-color photos and step-by-step instructions for practicing the ancient Chinese exercise.

Pilates Illustrated includes the teachings of Portia Page, a gold-certified Pilates teacher through Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) and faculty member of Balanced Body University (BBU). Her book offers a straightforward, visual approach to learning Pilates through detailed instructions and hundreds of photos.
