Author Melinda Manore receives SCAN Distinguished Scholar Award

Melinda Manore, PhD, RD, CSSD, FACSM, has been recognized as an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to research or the practice of dietetics with the 2011 SCAN Distinguished Scholar Award. Dr. Manore is author of Sport Nutrition for Health and Performance, Second Edition.


Dr. Manore was chosen for SCAN’s Distinguished Scholar Award based upon her notable contributions in research, service, and professional leadership. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU) and served as Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Foodservice Management at OSU from 2001 to 2004. Dr. Manore is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in the sports nutrition field. She has published more than 100 scientific articles, books and book chapters; mentored more than 20 graduate and undergraduate honors students, and served as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and the United States Department of Agriculture. Importantly, Dr. Manore has made significant contributions to dietetics practice. She is a founding member of SCAN’s SD-USA subunit and has held leadership roles in numerous professional organizations. She is currently Vice President of the American College of Sports Medicine.
