Custodian (Phase 1)
Job Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the facility, and ensuring the security of the building and grounds after business hours. Areas will be cleaned daily, weekly, or as needed in an efficient manner according to HK procedure. The Custodian may be required to work extra hours during the week and weekends as workload dictates.
Essential Function 1
Summary
Maintains the cleanliness of the offices as assigned.
Description
a. Cleans floors, furniture, and equipment per schedule. This requires
working with employees in order to clean around work related
materials.
b. Empties receptacles nightly, or as needed.
Essential Function 2
Summary
Perform weekly scheduled assignments.
Description
a. Pickup recycle materials nightly.
b. Clean Pick & Pack nightly, unless other tasks are scheduled.
c. Scheduled tasks. Examples: painting, detailed cleaning, carpet cleaning.
d. Clean warehouses weekly, or as needed.
e. Scheduled seasonal yard work.

Summary
Sanitizes and cleans restrooms nightly.
Description
a. Sanitizes showers, sinks, commodes, and urinals.
b. Cleans floors, countertops, mirrors, and hardware.
c. Restocks restroom supplies
Essential Function 4
Summary
Cleans entryways, lobby and bookstore, and hallways nightly.
Description
a. Vacuums carpets making sure they are cleaned well and all debris is picked up. Tile floors should be mopped nightly.
b. Cleans windows, pictures, furniture, shelves, and door hardware. These areas need to be cleaned very well to ensure good first impressions of HK.
c. Maintains the cleanliness of printer rooms nightly.
d. Carpet cleaning/extraction, as scheduled.
Essential Function 5
Summary
Ensures the security of the complex after business hours.
Description
a. Checks all doors and gates nightly to make sure they are locked.
b. Assists personnel to parking lot upon request.
c. Checks coffee pots, copiers, and turns lights off.
d. Performs weekend security as scheduled.
Essential Function 6
Summary
Performs non-routine duties after hours at night or on weekends.
Description
a. Cleans the grout on the tile floors on weekends as scheduled.
b. Cleans/extracts carpets on weekends upon request.
c. Details offices on weekends that are difficult to do during
the week. Works with employees so that items are off the floor and
furniture so these areas can be cleaned.
d. Cleans café chairs, carpet, and windows on weekends as scheduled.
e. Assist with non-custodial duties as scheduled by coordinator.
Skills
Interpersonal
The Custodian must be able to interact well with everyone in the facility. This individual must be helpful and courteous to those employees who are in the complex after hours.
Cognitive
The Custodian must be able to work independently with little on site supervision. S/he must be able to understand and follow both written and oral instructions. They must be able to recognize and prioritize those daily tasks that are not only scheduled but also arise occasionally.
Physical
The Custodian must have physical strength and mobility sufficient to lift and move all cleaning equipment throughout the facility. This person must be able to perform those tasks that require lifting, moving heavy objects, operating machinery, bending over, reaching overhead, and working on hands and knees.
Work Environment
Conditions
This is a temperature-controlled environment. The Custodian must be able to work with various solutions.

Vacuum cleaner
Carpet shampoo machines
Utility cart
Cleaning products
Dusting utensils
Mop and bucket
Window cleaning utensils
Requirements
Education
High School Diploma/GED
Qualifications
Previous custodial experience preferred.
