Title of Position: Sales Associate
JOB SUMMARY
The Sales Associate is responsible for implementing plans generating direct sales in the U.S. educational markets. S/he will promote the adoption of company textbooks through school and university sales calls, telemarketing, direct mail, electronic mail, and trade show attendance.
DUTIES
Essential Functions
1. Conduct the sales of company textbooks and classroom resources to the university market.
a. Prospect, initiate contact and secure course adoptions for appropriate college courses.
b. Make "on campus" sales calls to college instructors, and conduct book fairs
as warranted.
c. Provide support to adopting institutions by providing product information and
customer service assistance.
d. Conduct targeted telemarketing and e-mail programs.
e. Work with EducationSales Manager to develop strategic plans for the college adoption market.
2. Work with EducationSales Manager to conduct targeted textbook mailings to promote college textbook adoptions.
a. Assist Education Sales Manager in selecting appropriate mailing targets.
b. Assist Education Sales Manager in creating forms and letters to accompany mailings.
c. Conduct mailing follow-up via telephone and e-mail.
3. Conduct sales of textbooks and classroom resources to the elementary and secondary school markets.
a. Provide for the company's compliance to textbook submission guidelines, including the completion of required documentation, securing of performance bonds, and the provision of samples.
b. Make on-site presentations as required.
c. Assist the Education Sales Manager in developing strategic plans for this market.
4. Provide reporting and documentation.
a. File reports for campus sales calls.
b. Create reports detailing adoptions, as well as overall sales activity.
5. Represent Human Kinetics at trade shows and conferences.
a. Assist in transporting materials to event locations as required.
b. Set up exhibit in accordance with HK standards and exhibit regulations.
c. Effectively represent company to attendees while at event.
d. Manage booth during event by maintaining receipts, supplies, and inventory
e. Disassemble exhibit at the conclusion of the event and pack/load or otherwise prepare exhibit materials for safe return shipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sales Associate has no direct supervisory authority.
SKILLS
Interpersonal
The Sales Associate must have excellent written and oral communication skills. S/he must be articulate and have a good use of grammar. S/he must be able to work effectively with co-workers at Human Kinetics as well as customers. S/he must conduct work in a helpful and courteous manner and be able to work as a member of a team. S/he should be able to work well with external agents.
Cognitive
The Sales Associate must be able to work not only as a team member but also independently. S/he should be able to problem solve and take initiative to complete tasks. S/he needs to have good negotiating and selling skills. S/he should be able to conduct marketing and sales research. The Education Sales Manager must be able to work with multiple tasks and have the organizational skills to complete the tasks.
Physical
The Sales Associate must have dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and telephone and other standard office equipment. S/he needs the ability to travel long distances independently via conventional means. S/he should be able to set-up and tear down displays as well as moving product from one place to another in a timely manner (HK standards). S/he should be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. S/he must present a physical appearance consistent with accepted professional standards for attire, grooming and hygiene.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Conditions
This is a typical office environment in a temperature-controlled workspace. Work may be conducted at various sites such as universities and exhibit halls. Considerable travel required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Undergraduate degree in physical education or related field or 2 years of equivalent work related experience in sales or marketing.
Masters degree preferred.
Qualifications
Proficiency with database, word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheets
Excellent telephone interaction skills
Demonstrated sales/marketing skills
Track record of successfully selling into educational markets
