Author Handbook

The HK Author’s Handbook describes the publication process from the point at which an author prepares a proposal to the release of the product for sale. The appendixes provide detailed guidelines for manuscript preparation.

An HK representative will send various chapters and appendixes to authors at appropriate times in the process. For example, after we receive a proposal and offer a contract, we’ll send authors chapter 2, which describes how manuscripts are evaluated for publication, the possible outcomes of an acquisition meeting, the contracting process, and how to put a manuscript together. When the product is moving toward the production phases, the author will be sent chapter 5, which describes how HK makes decisions about covers and titles, how the interior design process works, the role of the ITMP meeting, and the copy package.
