How long does it take for a manuscript to become a book?
Most trade books take about 45 weeks, often less, from the time the first draft is written by the author to the time the book is in print. Academic titles, such as textbooks and large reference books, may take longer to develop—around a year. Time frames for publication vary depending on a book’s complexity, length, and the timeliness of the topic. At least half of the publication time involves careful review of your manuscript by our editorial staff, author revisions of the manuscript, design of the book’s interior and cover, and planning for the marketing of your book.
