Seniors Attend the Pool Weekly

BY: Paul McGuire
Apr 9, 2012 07:59

Changes in physical abilities, psychosocial, and cognitive all evolve gradually and are common in aging process. However, they may be delayed with the practice of physical activity; water aerobics is an example of this. Since the beginning of February of this year, the elderly from the project J3I- third age youth who attend the activities of the community center of Vale do Cávado from the Association In Dialogue, have the opportunity to also choose this sport.

These classes take places in the Municipal pool of Povoa do Lanhoso. There are around 16 seniors currently participating and enjoying the morphological, organic and psychosocial benefits that arise from the practice of this activity. This provides them a better quality of life, and consequently, longevity.

With the practice of hydrogymnastics, or any other physical activity, the seniors will feel more useful, independent, be more hopeful, increase their self-esteem and willingness, become healthier, sociable and happier individuals.
