Between the 20th and 26th November, the parish council of Portimão is organizing another Senior Week with various activities aimed at the welfare of the elderly both physical and psychological. Theater, games and rides are just some of the initiatives that are part of the program this year.
Every year, about a thousand elderly attend the program of the Portimão Senior week, sponsored by the parish council in collaboration with the community and other institutions of the city Portimão.
The goal is to provide leisure time for seniors by combining various activities, as explained the president of the board Ana Figueiredo. The mayor highlighted that the initiative was designed to take over one week for the seniors of the parish; providing them with various activities in the sectors of culture, leisure, sport and education with the major goal of promoting citizenship in the third age.
The opening of the Senior Week 2011 was scheduled for the 20th at 16:00, at the Municipal theatre of Portimão, with a symphonic concert of the Philharmonic Association of Regional Algarve. Scheduled initiatives follow, including most importantly hiking, cards and snooker tournaments, interactive games, movies in the afternoon, health screenings, Fado shows, cooking workshops with economic benefits, tender karaoke, fitness and amusing yoga, among others.
As in past years, the parish council of Portimão are expecting a high participation in these events; about a thousand elderly are expected to attend senior week 2011.
