The Senior Olympics, which is now on its third edition, is a collective project built upon the collaboration between four municipalities of Algarve in South Portugal. The event is designed for practitioners integrated in the Senior Sports programs.
This event aims to promote social and cultural interaction between the active older adults from Lagos, Lagoa, Portimão, and Silves cities through physical activity practice and exchange of experiences.
The Senior Olympics began February 21 and will go until May 16 in the four municipalities of Algarve. Balance, accuracy/coordination, and strength exercises as well as teamwork activities among practitioners, and dance presentations (choreography) are some activities that take place in this friendly competition. Participation in this event is reserved to seniors enrolled in the sports classes of those four municipalities.
