According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics, the number of people who went without needed prescription drugs because of costs nearly doubled to 11 percent in 2009, up from 6 percent in 1997. This information was released in the CDC’s annual report on the nation’s health, which is a round-up of health data from state and federal health agencies.
