LindaChristy Weiler, executive director of the Academy of Holistic Fitness, has an MS degree in somatic studies (the self experienced as a body) and a BA degree in psychology. She is a certified fitness instructor and has been a continuing education specialist for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) since 1996. A professional member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS), she has a background in sivananda, kriya, bikram, and iyengar yoga techniques.
LindaChristy served as director of the yoga and fitness program for the Hindu Cultural Center at the Ganesha Temple in Nashville for 11 years, and she created NETA’s (National Exercise Trainers’ Association) popular contemporary yoga specialty certificate program. Currently she teaches small-group workshops and private classes in somatic yoga, adult dance and movement education, and postural restructuring. What distinguishes her teaching is her interest in the effect of this work on the total person, not just on the body. She believes that health, fitness, and lifetime happiness are attained through a combination of physical, psychological, and spiritually based training techniques and that the essential qualities of poise, self-respect, inherent nobility, discipline, and kindness are integral aspects of optimal wellness.
Techniques in this program change the body gestalt both in overall appearance and anatomical function. LindaChristy Weiler shares the seven principles of proactive postural restructuring (PPR) and introduces the PPR technique that involves floor, seated, and standing preventive and corrective movement patterns. You’ll learn specific positions, movements, and movement patterns to help clients connect with the somatic sensations associated with basic movements of the hips, ankles, and feet as well as identify where they hold habitual and localized tension. A gradual presentation of more complex and difficult patterns will be introduced.
