The Centre for Information and Social Development of the Municipal Council of Wroclaw (Poland) will develop a new project for seniors, financially supported (550 000 USD) by the European Union. The name of the project is Centers for Local Mobilization for People 50 +, who are excluded from the society. The aim of it is to restore and increase the level of social activity and to develop those abilities.
Five hundred people, aged 50 and older who are unemployed, poor, disabled or chronically ill, are able to participate in the program. The duration of the project is 2010 – 2011; it will be held in all five departments of the city (one centre in one department). Each centre will manage four areas of the project: 1) basic skills at work (using the computer, basic English, an organizer of social activity), 2) development of social authorities (among others, psychosocial workshop, communication, self presentation), 3) psychosocial development in seniors (psychological and biological development over 50, meetings with authorities, artistic events), 4) local leader (e.g., marketing, cooperation and leading of the team, projects creating). The most active participants (65 from the whole group) will be awarded a leadership of the local society. All centers will be managed by a social partner, and the activities will support educational, cultural, municipal and sports institution, to create a wide coalition of different organizations.
