The City Hall of Matosinhos promotes during the month of July the Senior Bathing Colonies, which involve different recreational games for residents of care-homes and institutions of Matosinhos.
This initiative assists 800 elderly subjects that attend 21 nonprofit senior institutions from the city of Matosinhos and were performed in two different periods: July 5-16 and July 19-30. On the last day, “Beach Games” involved numerous activities involving physical education. The mayor, Dr. Guilherme Pinto, and the vive-mayor, Dr. Nuno Oliveira, participated in the closing ceremony. The activities were run by professional physical education teachers.
The autarchy states that these two weeks in the beach are a privileged moment for the socialization and physical well-being of institutionalized older people.
