As part of celebrations of the "Month of the Elderly," the city of Valadares in the north of Portugal held a senior prom, which was attended by about 700 older adults, aged 65 and older, from various institutions of the municipality.
This initiative has recorded a strong and enthusiastic participation of the elderly from various institutions. A 79-year-old woman confessed: "I love to dance, and initiatives like this are a good way of living life. It’s good for the mind and body.”
This event intended to promote socialization, happiness, and fun for this population.
Meanwhile, the municipality of Gaia/Valadares is organizing a "Meeting of Generations." This event will take place in three distinct cultural facilities for the elderly residents of different communities of Gaia (Valadares, Avintes, Crestuma, Grijó, Lever, and Olival). The “Meeting of Generations” will join children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. The participants will themselves be responsible for the activities for each other: One day, they’re acting, and in other circumstances the same intervenient will be spectators.
Beyond these two initiatives, the celebrations of the Gaia Senior Month presents to older people numerous activities and shows of music, theatre, cinema, and swimming.
