Netherlands’ Open Golf Day Invites Seniors to Play for Free

By Jonneke Kroes, the Netherlands

Golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the Netherlands. It is popular among young and older persons.

Golf is a sport with a relatively low movement intensity, yet a round consisting of 18 holes takes about four to five hours and includes six to seven kilometers of walking. That makes golf a healthy sport. Besides the health benefits, golf is also a social, challenging and relaxing sport.

On April 17 and 18, 2010, the National Open Golf Day will take place. More than 100 golf clubs will open the doors for interested people. Entrance is free. Golf professionals will explain the basic skills of the sport and there will be different clinics, matches, and courses. This year, extra attention will be given for the 50-plus population.
