The Third International Congress on Sport and Physical Activity for the Elderly took place March 12-14, 2009, in Malaga, Spain. It is considered the most important conference regarding sports and physical activities for elderly adults in Spain. More than 1,500 people from different European countries attended the congress, some of whom were university students.
This event was organized by the University of Malaga and Spain’s government partners, the Government of Andalusia, the Diputación of Malaga, and his Council.
The conference was divided into four major themes: health and physical condition; didactics, programs and content; organization and management activities; and psycho social. Major European and American professors presented research about the various topics. The conference also provided workshops on a variety of topics, including tai chi, corporal expression, ballroom dancing, pilates, enabling and sustaining muscular, basic rhythms for the elderly, fitness, yoga, and aquatics. The conference was considered a success and has prompted the organization to have a fourth edition.
